Markus Unterrainer (born July 14, 1980 ) is an Austrian soccer player .

Career

Unterrainer's first club was that of his Tyrolean hometown, SK Ebbs ; in his youth he played for SV Kirchbichl. In 1998, the then 19-year-old came to just now in the subprime 1. Division ascended SV Wörgl .

In the summer of 2003, the striker moved a class lower to FC Kufstein in the Regionalliga West , with which he only reached 6th place in his first season. Just one year later, Unterrainer, as the top scorer in the RLW, shot FC Kufstein to the 2004/05 championship title and promotion to the first division . (Ironically, the relegated club that was replaced there was Unterrainer's previous club, SV Wörgl.) However, Kufstein was unable to hold onto the class and was relegated to the Regionalliga West after just one season - in which Unterrainer could only score a meager five goals .

After another title of the RLW top scorer in the 2007/08 season, when almost half of all Kufsteiner goals went to Unterrainers, the striker signed a two-year contract with Bundesliga relegated FC Wacker Innsbruck . In the first year still a regular player, Unterrainer, " one of the undisputed crowd pleasers in Tivoli ", could not prevail in the 2009/10 season and was only a substitute player.

He made his last appearance for the Black-Greens on May 28, 2010, when he came on in the decisive championship game in the 88th minute for the two-time goalscorer Marcel Schreter and shortly afterwards cheered for the championship title and promotion of FC Wacker Innsbruck to the Bundesliga could.

For Unterrainer himself, the sporting path led in the opposite direction: after exactly two years in professional business, the striker returned to FC Kufstein, which is still playing in the Regionalliga West.
