The club was founded in 1952 and played in the Tyrolean League until 1992, before the club was promoted to the Regionalliga, a league in what was then the third Austrian performance class, for the first time.

After winning the Regionalliga West in the 1997/98 season under coach Helmut Kraft , the club was just able to prevail in the relegation to the second-class 1st division on penalties against VSE Sankt Pölten .

SV Wörgl (since 2005)

In January 2009 bankruptcy proceedings had to be applied for due to the association's financial problems. There were outstanding liabilities of around 870,000 euros. After Wörgl was unable to continue playing in the Tyrolean League in spring 2009, he was relegated to the Landesliga Ost, then in 2011 to the Regional League Ost.

After three seasons in the regional league east, SV Wörgl succeeded in advancing to the regional league east and marching through to the regional league west in the 2013/14 season : Landesliga-Ost title 2014/15, thus promotion to the Tyrolean regional league , then In 2015/16 with the renewed title in the Tyrolean regional league, direct promotion to Austria's third-highest division.

As the first team from Tyrol, the club was awarded a Bruno Award for "Most Popular Amateur Club" in 2016.

In 2017, SV Wörgl won the TFV Kerschdorfer Tirol Cup (7: 6 pt, 0: 1, 2: 2 against FC Kitzbühel).

SV Wörgl plays its home games in the Wörgl sports center, which has a capacity of 3,500 people.
