The Old Lund Observatory ( Swedish Lunds gamla observatorium ) is an observatory in the southern Swedish city of Lund . It was part of the Faculty of Astronomy at Lund University until 2001 .

The building, now a listed building, was created by Helgo Zettervall and inaugurated in 1867 after the faculty had moved from the centrally located Kungshuset . In 1897 Carl Charlier became director of the observatory. It is located within the medieval city wall in the Observatorieparken , right next to the city park. The observatory is equipped with a 25 cm refractor including a meridian circle . In the 1950s, on the initiative of Knut Lundmark, a panorama picture of the night sky was produced, the so-called "Vintergatskarta". Between 1978 and 2001 there was a publicly accessible planetarium in the building.

In 2001 the Astronomical Faculty moved to its newly established institute on Sölvegata , in the north of the city. The new observatory was integrated into Lund's old water tower.
