Carl Charlier
Carl Vilhelm Ludwig Charlier (born April 1, 1862 in Östersund , † November 5, 1934 in Lund ) was a Swedish astronomer .
Life
Charlier received his doctorate in science (Ph.D.) from Uppsala University in 1887. He stayed there for some time, then moved to Stockholm University before becoming Professor of Astronomy and Director of the Old Observatory at Lund University in 1897 .
He became known for his statistical studies of the stars in our galaxy, their positions and their movements. From everything he tried to develop a model of our galaxy.

Furthermore, a moon crater and a Martian crater were named after him, as well as the asteroid (8677) Charlier .
