Jürgen Heuser (born March 13, 1953 in Barth ) is a former German weightlifter . He was 1978 World Champion in super heavyweight .

Career

Jürgen Heuser trained weightlifting from childhood, first at BSG Motor Barth , and later under coach Uwe Ihde at BSG Motor in Stralsund .

After numerous participations and victories in children's and youth spartakiads and multiple wins in the GDR youth championships, he finished in 1972 at the GDR championships for senior citizens in the 2nd heavyweight category (weight class up to 110 kg body weight) with 442.5 kg in the Olympic three-way battle behind Jürgen Ciezki , 522.5 kg u. Grohnwald, 455 kg, took third place. At the GDR championship in 1973 he started in the super heavyweight (weight class over 110 kg body weight), in which he has now always started. He finished with 332.5 kg in a duel, pressing was abolished at the end of 1972, behind Gerd Bonk from Karl-Marx-Stadt , 387.5 kg, in second place.

Jürgen Heuser, who with a weight of almost 125 kg was always one of the lightest super heavyweights, was first used in international championships in 1974. At the European Championships in Varna he came to 372.5 kg (160-212.5) and took fifth place with this performance. At the world championship of the same year in Manila he improved further and won with 382.5 kg (165–217.5) behind Vasily Alexejew , USSR , 425 kg (185–240) and Serge Reding , Belgium , 400 kg (170–240) 230) took third place, benefiting from the fact that Gerd Bonk had made three failed attempts at pushing.

He also started at the World and European Championships in Moscow in 1975 and achieved a result of over 400 kg with 412.5 kg (180–232.5). With this performance he finished behind Wassili Alexejew, 427.5 kg, Gerd Bonk, 422.5 kg and Christo Plaschkow from Bulgaria , 420 kg took fourth place.

In 1976 Jürgen Heuser came third at the European Championships in 1976 in Berlin (East) with 410 kg (180-230). European champion was Gerd Bonk with 432.5 kg (180-252.5) ahead of Christo Platschkow with 430 kg. He was unable to compete in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal because he sustained a shoulder injury in training shortly before the East German team left for Montreal.

In 1977 the World and European Championships took place in Stuttgart . He achieved there 420 kg (182.5-237.5) and thus reached third place behind Vasily Alexejew, 430 kg (185-245) and Aslanbek Jenaldijew , another Soviet athlete.

In 1978 Jürgen Heuser achieved 407.5 kg (175–232.5) at the European Championships in Havířov . This performance is enough to fight for second place behind Vasily Alexejew, who lifted 415 kg (180-235), ahead of Gerd Bonk, 402.5 kg. At the World Championships this year in Gettysburg , Vasily Alexejew, who was considered unbeatable for many years, showed great weaknesses in his parade discipline of pushing, of all things, in his parade discipline of jerking after 185 kg and had three failed attempts, which meant he was dropped from the rating. The second Soviet starter Sultan Rachmanow , who had a much higher personal best than Heuser, also showed nerves. Heuser achieved 417.5 kg (185-232.5) and with this performance was world champion in a duel before Sultan Rachmanow, who also came to 417.5 kg (187.3-230), but was much heavier than Heuser.

In 1979 he finished second at both the European Championships in Varna and the World Championships in Salonika . In Varna he achieved 422.5 kg (180-242.5) and was behind Gerd Bonk , who was the new European champion with 427.5 kg (185-242.5 kg, and ahead of Rudolf Strejczek from Czechoslovakia , who lifted 390 kg In Saloniki he came in a duel to 420 kg (187.5-232.5) and only had to admit defeat to Sultan Rachmanow , 430 kg (192.5-237.5), but was still ahead of Gerd Bonk, who only Scored 412.5 kg (175-235).

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Jürgen Heuser finally won the silver medal behind Sultan Rachmanow, 440 kg (195-245), at the end of his international career with 410 kg (182.5-237.5).

At the national level, Jürgen Heuser continued to lift for a few years and scored outstanding victories at the Blue Swords Cup in Meißen in 1981 and 1982 with 427.5 kg (190-237.5) and 420 kg (180-240) Services.

After the end of his career he worked as an engineer at the Stralsund shipyard. Later he was technical director at the Barth Central Pioneer Camp. After the political turning point in the GDR, he started his own business as a taxi entrepreneur in Prerow / Darß.

For his sporting successes he was honored in 1988 as "Honored Master of Sports". In 1980 he received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
