Jürgen Ciezki

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jürgen Ciezki (born May 27, 1952 in Schwerin ) is a former German weightlifter . He won several medals in the 2nd heavyweight class (up to 110 kg body weight) at world and European championships between 1974 and 1980.

Career

Jürgen Ciezki, who learned to be an electrician, began lifting weights as a teenager in 1967. When his great talent became apparent, he was delegated to TSC Berlin . At the age of 18, he was 1.80 meters tall and in the 2nd heavyweight division, which had a weight limit of 110 kg. In 1970 he took second place in the junior championship of the GDR in the 2nd heavyweight division with 367.5 kg in the Olympic three-way fight (OD).

A year later, in 1971, he became junior champion of the GDR in the 2nd heavyweight class and increased to 425 kg in the OD. In the same year he showed himself further improved at a junior tournament in Sliven with 440 kg in the OD. However, he already pulverized this performance at the GDR championship in 1972, when he increased to 522.5 kg in the OD and thus took 1st place. After the Olympic Games in 1972, pushing was abolished and since then only a duel consisting of snatching and pushing has been fought. Jürgen Ciezki achieved in this new form of competition in 1972 at an international tournament in Havana 335 kg (145-190) and won over the Soviet athlete Tarkil, 315 kg. He increased this performance in 1972 in a junior international match between the GDR and Poland to 345 kg (155-190).

In 1973 Jürgen Ciezki increased himself to 357.5 kg in the GDR championship and thus took 2nd place behind Helmut Losch , 362.5 kg and in front of Peter Käks , 350 kg. In 1974 he was then in the 2nd heavyweight with 362.5 kg (162.5-200) again GDR champion. He referred Peter Käks to 2nd place with 345 kg. In 1974 he was used for the first time at an international championship. At the European Championships in Varna he achieved 370 kg (165-205) in the 2nd heavyweight division and thus won 3rd place behind Valeri Ustyushin from the USSR , 390 kg and Valentin Christow from Bulgaria, 387.5 kg. In the same year he was also used at the World Championships in Manila . There he achieved the new personal best of 377.5 kg (165-212.5), with which he was runner-up behind Vasily Ustyushin and referred the second Soviet starter Yuri Saizew to 3rd place. He achieved the greatest success of his career in pushing, because with 212.5 kg he won the world title because he was a little lighter than Ustyuschin, who managed the same load.

In 1975, after winning his third GDR championship title, he started at the World and European Championships in Moscow . Jürgen Ciezki achieved in Moscow in a duel 390 kg (170-220) and thus occupied both the World and the European Championships behind the 417.5 kg world record lifting Valentin Christow and the somewhat lighter Soviet athlete Vasily Moscheikow , who like him Lifted 390 kg, 3rd place.

In 1976 Jürgen Czieki achieved the best duel performance of his career at the European Championships in Berlin (East) with 395 kg (170-225). With this performance he came 3rd behind Valentin Christow, 415 kg and Yuri Saizew, USSR, 400 kg. Because of this performance, he drove very confidently to the Olympic Games in Montreal . There he was not in good shape and only achieved 372.5 kg (162.5–210) in a duel. With this performance he originally only finished 7th, but subsequently moved up to 5th place because of the disqualification of two athletes who were in front of him because of doping. Among other things, the original Olympic champion Valentin Christow was disqualified.

At the World and European Championships in Stuttgart in 1977 , Valentin Christow, who received only an incomprehensibly short doping ban, Juri Saizew and Jürgen Ciezki made the world and European champions among themselves. Jürgen Ciezki was the third winner behind Christow and Saizew with 390 kg (172.5–217.5). In 1978 Christow was absent due to an injury. Jürgen Ciezki was therefore this year both at the European Championships in Havířov and at the World Championships in Gettysburg with 380 kg (170-210) and 385 kg (170-215) behind Yuri Saizew, 402.5 kg (177, 5–225) and 402.5 (172.5–230) took second place.

In 1979 Jürgen Ciezki was out due to an injury. But he celebrated a successful comeback in 1980 at the Meissen Cup of Blue Swords in the 2nd heavyweight division, when he took second place with 375 kg (165-210) behind the Hungarian Györgyi Szalay , 377.5 kg. At the subsequent European championship in Belgrade , he again achieved 390 kg in a duel and thus took 3rd place behind the new Soviet star lifter Leonid Taranenko , 420 kg a. Valentin Christow, 402.5 kg. This was Jürgen Ciezki's last start at an international championship, because, surprisingly, he was no longer at the Olympic Games in Moscow.
