Tadeusz Rutkowski (born April 25, 1951 in Krakow ) is a former Polish weightlifter .

Career

Rutkowski had his first international assignment at the 1973 World Cup in Havana , where he scored 340.0 kg (150.0 / 190.0 kg) in the 2nd heavyweight up to 110 kg and finished eighth. The first-placed Pavel Perwuschin lifted 385.0 kg. One year later, at the World Championships in Manila , Rutkowski was able to increase to 350.0 kg (150.0 / 200.0 kg) and thus reached sixth place.

He continued his development up to the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , which also represented the World Championships for that year, where he lifted 377.5 kg (167.5 / 210.0 kg), which he did after the disqualification of the originally first-placed Valentin Christow took the bronze medal behind Yuri Saizew and Krasto Semerdzhiev with 385.0 kg each.

Rutkowski played his next world championship in 1978 in Gettysburg , where he placed fourth with the same performance as at the Olympic Games two years earlier. The medals went to Saizew with 402.5 kg and Jürgen Ciezki and Rickard Nilsson with 385.0 kg each . In 1979 Rutkowski scored 380.0 kg (170.0 / 210.0 kg) in a duel at the World Championships in Saloniki , which was only enough for seventh place due to the strong field of participants. The winner was Sergej Arakelow with 410.0 kg, ahead of Christow and Leonid Taranenko with 402.5 kg each.

For his second Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 , Rutkowski competed with a body weight of 124.90 kg in the super heavyweight over 110 kg. Here he was able to win his second bronze medal at the Olympic Games with 407.5 kg (180.0 / 227.5 kg). Olympic champion was Sultan Rachmanow with 445.0 kg in front of Jürgen Heuser with 410.0 kg. Since the World Championships and the Olympic Tournament were held in one event at these games too, Rutkowski won three more World Cup medals.

Even after 1980 Rutkowski remained less competitive super heavyweight and was in 1981 at the World Championships in Lille kg with 415.0 (182.5 / 232.5 kg) vies bronze win, behind Anatoly Pisarenko kg with 425.0 and Senno Salzwedel with 417.5 kg.
