life and work

From 1947 he was a Waldorf student in Freiburg im Breisgau. Between 1955 and 1958, Peter Schnatz completed an apprenticeship as a window dresser. From 1958 to 1962 he studied painting with Paul Berger-Bergner at the Free Academy in Mannheim. From 1962 he lived as a freelance painter in Mannheim. From 1988 onwards, he repeatedly used his balcony with labeled flags for public protests (e.g. art strike).

In 2004 he ended his life by suicide.

The theme of his painting was the representation of opposites: organic versus artificial, figurative versus abstract , macro - versus microstructure. Most of his works are grouped into cycles, and there is no recognizable uniform style of the different cycles.
