Peter Käks
Peter Käks (* 1950 ) is a former German weightlifter .
Career
Peter Käks was a member of the East German NVA and a member of the Army Sports Club (ASK) Leipzig when he first drew attention to himself with good performances in 1970. This year he made his first start on the international lifting stage at the "Tournament of Friendship" in Soviet Lvov and took 3rd place behind his teammate Thomas Ahrberg in the middle heavyweight division with 425 kg (130-132.5-162.5), who came to 452.5 kg and the Russian Tarkil, 445 kg.
Behind Ahrberg, he was also runner-up in the GDR in the middle heavyweight division in 1971. In 1971 he represented the GDR at the Baltic Cup and came with 445 kg in the Olympic three-way fight behind Wassili Kolotow , USSR , 520 kg and the like. Jaakko Kailajärvi , Finland , 495 kg in 3rd place. At the GDR championship in 1972, he increased his middle-heavy weight to 477.5 kg and finished second behind Karl Arnold from Zittau , who came to 505 kg.
In 1973 the International Weightlifting Federation (IMF) abolished pushing. Since then, the competitions have consisted of a duel (snatch and push). Peter Käks started in 1973 in the heavyweight division, which at that time had its weight limit of 110 kg. He took 3rd place in this weight class at the GDR championship in 1973 with 350 kg behind Helmut Losch , Stralsund , 362.5 kg a. Jürgen Ciezki , TSC Berlin , was used at the World Championships in Havana . There he came in 6th place with 350 kg in a duel. The winner was Perwuschin from the USSR with 385 kg in front of Helmut Losch, who increased to 370 kg.
Helmut Losch and Jürgen Ciezki remained Peter Käks' main competitors in the GDR for the next few years. At the GDR championship in 1974, Peter Käks came second with 345 kg (155-190) behind Jürgen Ciezki, 362.5 kg. It was also used at the World Championships in Manila that year , where it increased to 360 kg (160-200) and thus took 5th place. In 1975 he was with a large increase to 382.5 kg (170-212.5) behind Jürgen Ciezki again GDR runner-up, because Ciezki achieved 385 kg in a duel. He was also in good shape at the World and European Championships in Moscow in 1975 and came in 4th place (World Cup + European Championship rating) with 377.5 kg (167.5-210).
At the GDR championship in 1976, Peter Käks came third behind Jürgen Ciezki and Helmut Losch and thus missed the jump to the Olympic Games in Montreal. In 1977 he represented his country again at the World and European Championships in Stuttgart and came there in the 2nd heavyweight division on 382.5 kg (167.5-215). In fifth, however, he again just missed the medal ranks.
In 1977 Peter Käks moved to Frankfurt (Oder) because the army sports club was relocated from Leipzig to this city.
After he couldn't start in 1978 due to an injury, he finally managed to win the GDR championship in 1979. He was with 390 kg (175-215) winner in front of Merker, Berlin, 355 kg a. Rene Wyßuwa , Dresden , who managed 352.5 kg. At the European Championships in 1979 in Varna , he finally managed to win a medal at an international championship with 385 kg (170-215) and third place.
After this championship Peter Käks ended his weightlifting career. He became a trainer in Frankfurt (Oder) and has been a base trainer for the German Weightlifting Association at the Olympic base there for many years. He lives in Letschin .
Doping in the GDR
In 1979 and 1980 Käks received 11225 and 4445 mg Oral-Turinabol , respectively, as part of the state-operated forced doping system of the GDR .
