The BSG Motor Stralsund was a company sports association in Stralsund . BSG Motor Stralsund was primarily known for its internationally successful weightlifters, but it also had success with wrestlers, handball players and soccer players. With the help of the economically strong Volkswerft Stralsund as a sponsoring company , it quickly became the largest sports community in the Hanseatic city and in 1955 offered sport in 20 departments. The number of members rose from 689 in 1955 to around 1300 in 1960 and to 2395 in 1980. In 1990 the company sports community was dissolved. TSV 1860 Stralsund , which was re-established in August 1990, sees itself as the successor to BSG Motor for some sports .

Field hockey

In field hockey , the male youth of BSG Motor Stralsund reached third place in the GDR championship in 1979 , and in 1984 they became runner-up. The female youth finished third in 1979 and runner-up in 1984.

Soccer

The men's gymnastics club in Stralsund , founded on August 17, 1860, had a football department until it was spun off in 1924 as SV Viktoria Stralsund . From 1934 on, football was played again at TSV 1860 Stralsund, as the club was now called; The only supraregional success was reaching the promotion round to Gauliga Pommern in 1943/44 , in which TSV 1860 Stralsund was subject to LSV Stolpmünde and BSG Pölitz and thus did not rise to the first-class Gauliga Pommern at the time. After the Second World War , TSV 1860 Stralsund was dissolved as a result of the general ban on associations initiated by the Soviet occupying forces. As part of the licensed sports operation at the local level, three Stralsund football teams played in the top regional class of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (later the regional extension "Vorpommern" was dropped), the Mecklenburg regional football class in 1946/47 : SV Viktoria, TSV 1860, SG Sundia Stralsund and SG Strela Stralsund . In the Football Landesklasse Mecklenburg 1947/48 was the SG Stralsund resulting from the merger of SG Sundia Stralsund and SG Strela Stralsund had arisen active. After a name change, Stralsund was represented in the Mecklenburg state soccer class in 1948/49 by the ZSG of VEB Stralsund , the so-called carrier company was the Stralsund shipyard . Another name change to ZSG Aktivist Stralsund followed, the ZSG Aktivist played in the now only second -class state soccer class Mecklenburg 1949/50 and qualified for their final round, but missed promotion. In the following season the state class was only third class, the Stralsunders played in the Mecklenburg state football class in 1950/51 under the name ZSG Anker Stralsund .

In the last season of the state class, the Mecklenburg State Football League 1950/51 , the Stralsund team played under the name BSG Motor Stralsund , the team became the Rostock Football District League (the district league was the top division in the GDR districts that took place of the countries founded).

In 1955, the team became district champions and qualified for the third-class II. GDR league . This was followed by an interplay between third and fourth division until 1962, and when it appeared that Stralsund could hold out for more than two years in the second GDR league, this was dissolved and the actually good sixth place at the end of the 1962 season / 63 meant the demotion to the district league. The BSG played there for three years before they were promoted to the second-rate GDR league in 1966 with the fourth district championship . But the team could not hold the class in the season 1966/1967 , and after the district league season 1967/1968 Stralsund even rose to the fourth-class district class. After rising again in 1969, Motor Stralsund played in the district league again for nine years. In the meantime, the BSG Motor was weakened by the fact that it had to cede most of the youth teams to the army athletes in order to strengthen the army sports community Vorwärts Stralsund, which had been relocated from Rostock . After the promotion to the second division associated with the fifth district championship in 1978, the class could not be held in the GDR league season 1978/179 with only three wins. It was not until 1983 that the promotion succeeded again, but after eight victories in the GDR league in the 1983/1984 season, the team, which was in eighth place in Season A, was relegated to the district league again.

After the end of the 1988/1989 season, the army sports association, the carrier of local rivals ASG Vorwärts Stralsund, was dissolved in the course of the "turnaround" . Forward Stralsund had finished the 1988/1989 season of the GDR league in eighth place. The ASG players were taken over by BSG Motor Stralsund, which also took over the ASG's starting place in the GDR league. In the 1989/1990 season, the BSG Motor Stralsund team finished 10th in season A and thus qualified for the new NOFV league .
