Josef Horešovský

Josef Horešovský (born July 18, 1946 in Žilina u Nového Strašecí , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak ice hockey player who played for HC Sparta Prague and the Czechoslovak national team on the position of defender for many years . Today he works as an ice hockey coach.

Career as a player

Josef Horešovský began his career in 1962 at Poldi Kladno before moving to the Czechoslovak capital in 1965 to join the HC Prague division. With one interruption, he stayed with this club until 1976. During his military service he played for the army club Dukla Jihlava , with which he won the Czechoslovak championship in 1970 and 1971 . After the 1976/77 season, which he spent at Motor České Budějovice , Horešovský ended his career. In total, he scored 83 goals in 514 games in the 1st division of Czechoslovakia .

Josef Horešovský also had great success in international championships. With the Czechoslovak men's selection , he won two medals at the Olympic Winter Games and five medals at world championships . He received his first appointment to the national team for the ice hockey world championship in 1968 and from then on he participated annually in the world championship. In the same year he was appointed to the squad for the 1968 Winter Olympics and won the silver medal. In 1972 another Olympic participation followed, where he won the bronze medal with the ČSSR selection. In the national jersey, he scored 23 goals in 152 international matches for Czechoslovakia.

Career as a coach

A year after retiring as a player, Josef Horešovský took over the post of head coach at TJ Škoda Plzeň . In the 1979/80 season he was in charge of Motor České Budějovice before he was a coach at Sparta ČKD Praha for three years . In 1982 he was allowed to move to Western European countries and until 1985 Horešovský coached the French club Grenoble Métropole Hockey 38 , which was playing in the National A at the time. About the Gap Hockey Club (1985/86) he returned to the ČSSR and was again head coach of Sparta ČKD Praha. In 1990 he won the Czechoslovak championship with Sparta.

After this success he took over the coaching post at TPS Turku in the 1990/91 season . Between 1992 and 1997 he trained again with HC Sparta Prague and reached the last Czechoslovak championship before the division of the country in the 1992/93 season.

Between 1998 and December 2001 he worked as the head coach of HC Slovan Ústečtí Lvi and led the team from the third-class 2nd division to the second-class 1st division. Then he took over the coaching position at BK Mladá Boleslav until the end of the season.
