Leo Gudas (born May 20, 1965 in Bruntál , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and current coach . His son Radko is also a hockey player.

Player career

During his career he played from 1983/84 for HC Sparta Prague , HC Dukla Jihlava and HC Dukla Trenčín before he moved to JYP Jyväskylä in Finland for two years in the 1990/91 season. From Finland he moved to Germany to EC Hedos Munich at the beginning of the 1992/93 season, from where he moved back to HC Sparta Prague during the season. During the 1993/94 season he moved from Prague to Switzerland to EHC Biel , before moving to Norway for the Spektrum Flyers for the 1994/95 season. After the season he moved to HC Kometa Brno for the 1995/96 season , before playing at IF Troja-Ljungby in Sweden from 1996 to 1998 . He then played between 1998 and 2000 with the Augsburger Panther in the German Ice Hockey League , before playing between 2000 and 2002 with the Heilbronn EC in the 2nd Bundesliga. After the 2002/03 season, in which he played at HC Berounští Medvědi , he ended his active playing career.

International

With the Czechoslovak national team he took part in the ice hockey world championship between 1989 and 1992 , and in 1993 with the Czech national team . He also played with Czechoslovakia at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville and the 1991 Canada Cup . He won the bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games, as well as at the World Championships in 1989, 1990 , 1992 and 1993.

Coaching career

In the 2004/05 season Leo Gudas was assistant coach under Slavomír Lener at HC Sparta Prague .

Between 2007 and 2009 Gudas worked as an assistant coach at BK Mladá Boleslav , who made it from the first division to the extra division during this time . For the 2009/10 season he took his first head coach at SK Kadaň from the 1st division. However, this engagement ended prematurely, and so he returned for the 2010/11 season as an assistant to Mladá Boleslav. The success of the first term of office did not materialize and so he and his counterpart Jan Tlačil had to leave the club at the end of October 2010. For the 2011/12 season , Gudas took on an assistant coach position at HC Most from the 1st division.

In January 2012, Gudas became sports manager of Piráti Chomutov , and later also assistant coach of the professional team.
