Jiří Vykoukal (born March 11, 1971 in Olomouc , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player .
Career
Jiří Vykoukal began his career as a hockey player at HC Olomouc , for which he was active from 1986 to 1989 in the first division of Czechoslovakia . He was then selected in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft in the tenth round as a total of 208 players by the Washington Capitals . After another year in Czechoslovakia at HC Sparta Prague , the defender played for Washington’s farm team , the Baltimore Skipjacks from the American Hockey League, from 1990 to 1992 . During the 1991/92 season Vyoukal returned to Sparta Prague, with whom he became Czechoslovak champion in 1993 . In the 1993/94 season, Vykoukal scored 33 points, including six goals, in 44 games and was voted the best defender of the Extraliga. He then moved to MoDo Hockey Örnsköldsvik from the Swedish Elitserien . After one season, the Czech returned to his home country, where he played for Sparta Prague for two more years.
From 1998 to 2003 Vykoukal was under contract with the Espoo Blues from the Finnish SM-liiga . He then played for two years for their league rivals TPS Turku , before returning to Sparta Prague for the last time in 2005, for which he has since played and with whom he won two consecutive Czech championships in 2006 and 2007 . Furthermore, the defender was elected to the All-Star-Team of the IIHF European Champions Cup in 2008. After he had started the 2010/11 season at HC Sparta Prague, he moved to its league rivals HC České Budějovice in January , where he ended his career at the end of the season.
International
For Czechoslovakia , Vykoukal took part in the U20 Junior World Championships in 1989 and 1990 . Vykoukal played for the Czech Republic at the 1995 , 1996 , 1997 , 1998 and 1999 World Championships . He was also in the Czech squad for the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey .
