A season later he became the club's coach and led him to win the title in the Austrian National League ( 1993 ) . At that time he was 26 years old.
Return to the Czech Republic
In 1994 Kalous returned to the Czech Republic from Austria and trained with H + S Beroun HC for one season . In 1995 he moved to HC Slavia Prague , where he worked for the following 14 years. He began as a coach with the juniors, with whom he won the junior league title in the first year (1995/996). He accompanied HC Slavia Prague for one season as an assistant coach, only to lead the HC Slavia Prague juniors to the title again a year later (1997/1998). From 1998 to 2003 he was the coach of the Czech national junior team (born in 1983) and coached the U20 team of HC Slavia Prague. With the national team of juniors he finished 4th at the U18 World Cup in Finland in 2001.
In 2002, Kalous was in the extra league team of Slavia Prague at the side of Vladimír Růžička and Ondřej Weissmann , mainly responsible for planning and preparing the training processes, the individual preparation of the players and the fitness training. In the 2002/03 season they celebrated the team's first extra league title in the club's recent history. In 2003/2004 and 2005/2006 they took the team to 2nd place in the Extraliga. After the 2006/2007 season, Ondřej Weissmann left the team of three. Kalous and Růžička led the team in the following season (2007/2008) again to win the title in the Extraliga. One season later (2008/2009) the team finished second in the table.
After his engagement at HC Slavia Prague, Kalous moved to the 2009/10 season as head coach for the extra league club Bílí Tygři Liberec . He looked after the team for three years until the end of the 2011/12 season and reached the play-offs with her, two of them the semi-finals.
For the 2012/13 season he moved to the newly founded Prague KHL team HC Lev Prague and became assistant coach to Josef Jandač . After a successful start to the season there was a series of failures that led to the dismissal of head coach Josef Jandač. Kalous stayed with the team and was temporarily head coach of the team before Václav Sýkora took over the team. At the beginning of 2013 Kalous ended his engagement with HC Lev Prague.
From the 2013/14 season he was the head coach of HC Oceláři Třinec before he was recalled in November 2015. For the 2016/17 season he was head coach at HC Sparta Prague .
