André Lakos (born July 29, 1979 in Vienna ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the EC Graz 99ers in the EBEL .

Career

André Lakos began his career in Canada , where he played for the Montreal-Bourassa junior teams and the Shelburne Wolves. Between 1997 and 1999 he ran in the Ontario Hockey League for the Toronto St. Michael's Majors and Barrie Colts , before he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 in the third round in a total of 95th place by the New Jersey Devils . The Devils brought Lakos into their farm team, the Albany River Rats , for him to go on the ice in the American Hockey League for the following three seasons . In January 2002 the Devils exchanged him for Valery Kamenski from the Dallas Stars , for whom he never played. Instead, he was used by their farm team, the Utah Grizzlies , in the AHL.

Since he could not assert himself in North America and did not get any closer to his goal, the NHL, he returned to Europe in the summer of 2002 and played for the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian ice hockey league in the following two years . In July 2004 he was hired as a free agent by the Columbus Blue Jackets , but again failed to make it into the NHL squad and was deported to their farm team, Syracuse Crunch . After the following season in the AHL, Lakos returned to Austria and signed a contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg , with whom he became Austrian champion in 2007 . To this success he contributed 44 scorer points in 52 season games, so that again an NHL club took notice of the now 27-year-old. First Lakos signed a contract with the Swedish first division club Färjestad BK , but in mid-June 2007 he was signed by the Minnesota Wild and tried to get a regular place in the NHL through a training camp.

Due to an injury in preparation for the 2007/08 season , Lakos could not fully participate in the training camp of the Minnesota Wild and in late September 2007 was sent to their farm team, the Houston Eros , in the AHL. There he should collect match practice and recommend a good performance for the NHL. After eleven games for Houston in the AHL, Lakos gave up and returned to Europe, where he fulfilled his contract with the Färjestads BK. With his new club he reached the playoffs of the 2007/08 season , but was not used in this due to a broken jaw. After the elimination in the playoff semifinals, the club's management decided to rebuild the team and gave Lakos no new contract, which then explored offers from various European clubs. Ultimately, he decided on the HK tractor Chelyabinsk from the KHL , as the new league appealed to him.

For tractor he scored twelve points scorer in 44 KHL games in the 2008/09 season with 71 penalty minutes and was one of the most frequently used players on his team. He recommended himself for a contract extension, which he received in May 2009. On January 10, 2010, his contract with Traktor was terminated for personal reasons and he returned to Austria to his former club EC Red Bull Salzburg . After winning the championship in 2011, he was unable to agree on a new contract with the Salzburg team and moved to the DEL club Kölner Haie for the 2011/12 season . After he could not meet the expectations of Cologne, he agreed with the club in January 2012 to terminate his contract. Lakos then moved to the Vienna Capitals , for which he played 16 games in the 2011/12 season.

In September 2014 Lakos and Oliver Setzinger played two games for the CSM Dunărea Galați as part of the Romanian Ice Hockey Cup . After he was initially without a club at the beginning of the 2014/15 season, the SCL Tigers from the National League B signed him in December 2014 . The same was repeated in the following season, when he was initially out of work and was only signed by Orli Znojmo in January 2016 .

Since July 2017 Lakos has been under contract with the Tölzer Löwen from the DEL2 . In January 2018 he was dismissed from EC Bad Tölz and switched back to the EBEL to HC Orli Znojmo . For the 2018/2019 season he was signed by the EC Graz 99ers , but left the club in December 2018 by mutual agreement.

International

Lakos began to represent Austria in international tournaments early in his career - he competed in the U18-C European Championships in 1996 and 1997 when he was voted the tournament's best defender, as well as the U20-C World Cup in 1997 .

On April 25, 1999, he made his debut in a 1-1 friendly match against France in Lyon in the Austrian national team and joined the Austrian national team in 1999 , 2000 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2007 , 2009 and 2013 in the A group or the top division and 2006 in division I, when the immediate promotion to the top division succeeded. In addition, he represented his colors in the qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 as well as at the Winter Games in Salt Lake 2002 and Sochi 2014 .
