Tyler "Ty" Wishart (born May 19, 1988 in Comox , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with Fehérvár AV19 from the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League .

Career

Wishart first played for the Comox Valley Midgets in a lower-class Canadian junior league in British Columbia before the defender was on the ice for the Prince George Cougars in the Western Hockey League from the 2004/05 season , where he had eight points in his first season collected. In the 2005/06 season , Wishart managed to more than quadruple its offensive production with 37 points. In the summer of 2006, the defender was selected in the NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks in the first round in 16th position. During the 2006/07 season he played for the Cougars with Devin Setoguchi , the Sharks' first round pick from 2005 .

After completing his third regular WHL season, he signed his first professional contract with the San Jose Sharks on March 26, 2007, before taking part in the Super Series 2007 for Team Canada in August and September. In the Sharks training camp that took place after the Super Series, Wishart could not prevail and was initially sent back to his junior team. There he played his most successful season to date in the first half of the season, although he was not included in the national team's squad for the U20 World Junior Championship . On January 7, 2008 he was transferred to the Moose Jaw Warriors within the WHL . He finished the season with personal bests in the categories of points, goals and assists and was also the defender with the highest points in the league with 67 points. After the elimination of the Warriors from the playoffs, Wishart was ordered to the Worcester Sharks , the farm team of the San Jose Sharks, in the American Hockey League , where he made his professional debut.

Before Wishart, however, played his first game for the NHL team of the Sharks, he was given on July 4, 2008 in the course of a transfer deal together with Matt Carle and two draft picks for Dan Boyle and Brad Lukowich to the Tampa Bay Lightning . There he was subsequently used in the AHL farm team of the Lightning, the Norfolk Admirals . At the beginning of 2009, the defender was finally appointed to the Lightning NHL squad and made his debut. However, the Canadian was denied the breakthrough with the Bolts , so that he was used exclusively in the AHL farm team with the Norfolk Admirals in the following two seasons .

At the beginning of 2011, the Tampa Bay Lightning transferred him to the New York Islanders in exchange for goalkeeper Dwayne Roloson . After two years with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , he moved to the DEL newcomer Schwenninger Wild Wings on August 29, 2013 , where Wishart signed a one-year contract. In the course of the season, the Wild Wings agreed with Wishart to extend the contract, but the player asked for an immediate termination immediately before the start of his second year of contract for personal reasons. Schwenningen complied with this request and Wishart returned to North America.

After several months of private time off, he finally took part in a training camp run by the Binghamton Senators . There he received no contract and therefore then played for the Evansville Icemen from the ECHL . After 14 missions, Wishart moved to Mora IK in the Swedish second division HockeyAllsvenskan . His contract was not extended after it expired.

From October 2015 Wishart was under contract with the Eispiraten Crimmitschau from the DEL2 . This was followed by a one-year engagement with the Slovak club HC 05 Banská Bystrica , followed by almost two years with the Czech first division club HC Dynamo Pardubice . The Canadian has been playing for the Hungarian club Fehérvár AV19 from the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League since January 2019 .
