Casey Borer (born July 28, 1985 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who was last under contract at EC Bad Tölz in the DEL2 .

Career

The 1.88 m tall defender first played in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program of the American Hockey Association , during his college years, he represented the St. Cloud State University in the WCHA , a league in the game operation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , on the Ice. For two years he was captain of the university team. In the 2004 NHL Entry Draft , the left-handed shooter was finally selected ( drafted ) as 69th in the third round of the Carolina Hurricanes .

Borer first played for the Albany River Rats , a Hurricanes farm team in the AHL , his first NHL appearances for the Carolina franchise in the 2007/08 season : on January 2, 2008, he became the defender for the injured Bret Hedican in Appointed the NHL roster of the Hurricanes. Borer made his NHL debut against the Atlanta Thrashers on the same day, two days later he scored his first goal in the top North American professional league in the next game against the Thrashers.

After Hedican recovered, Casey Borer returned to the River Rats roster on February 21, 2008. Until 2011 he played for the Hurricanes farm team in the AHL and only came to a few appearances in the NHL.

In August 2011 Borer was signed by HC Pardubice from the Czech Extraliga after Josef Melichar had ended his career at short notice the day before . On May 9, 2012 Borer announced his move to Germany to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . In July 2013, the American signed a two-year contract with Eisbären Berlin . After this he returned to Nuremberg for one season (2015/16).

In August 2016, the Japanese club Nippon Paper Cranes from the Asian league announced Borers commitment. On January 17, 2018 he returned to Germany, this time in the DEL2 to the Tölzer Löwen .

International

For the US junior national teams Borer played the U18 World Cup in 2003 and the U20 World Cup in 2005 , in which Team USA took fourth place.
