history

The engineer Franz Klöckner founded in 1899 in Cologne , the F. Klöckner, Ing., Special factory in Cologne for the production of electrical switching apparatus. In 1911 the engineer Hein Moeller joined the company. From 1942 the company was called Klöckner-Moeller. During the Second World War , the company buildings in Cologne were destroyed, which is why the company's headquarters were relocated to Bonn. In 1999 the company was changed from Klöckner-Moeller to Moeller. The company was family-owned until 2003, when the private equity investor Advent International took over all shares in the group of companies that had run into financial difficulties. After a successful turnaround , the English financial investor Doughty Hanson & Co acquired a 75 percent majority stake in the Moeller group of companies in a debt-financed takeover (Advent initially retained 25%). On December 20, 2008, the Moeller group of companies announced in a press release that the Irish Eaton Corporation had taken over 100% of the Moeller group of companies.

Since March 1, 2010, Moeller GmbH has been called Eaton Industries GmbH. This is another step towards integration into the Eaton Group.

Moeller building automation

Moeller building automation with its competence center in Austria specializes in energy distribution products. The business area includes power distribution , communication and building automation in the low-voltage range . In the segment up to 400 volts , the product range includes circuit breakers, distribution systems, building automation systems such as Xcomfort , and data network technology. In the 2005/06 business year, Moeller Building Automation had 4,030 employees.

History of building automation

In 1944, the Felten & Guilleaume Carlswerk outsourced part of its production to an area that was difficult to reach for allied bombers. A factory for producing electrical coils was built in Eugenia near Schrems in the Gmünd district of Austria . After the Second World War, the location was relocated to Schrems. The focus of production was on pupin coils .

A development laboratory for low-voltage switchgear was opened in Vienna in 1957. In 1970 the company owned 20 patents. Under the direction of Gottfried Meier Biegel was leakage circuit breaker invented (short-FI) and further developed. Today the FI is an important part of the power supply. In many countries, the FI is required by law when building new buildings, for example in Austria since 1980.

Further production facilities for building automation were created from Schrems, for example in Derio (Spain) in 1957 and in neighboring Suchdol nad Lužnicí (Czech Republic) in 1994 . When F & G was taken over by the German Moeller Group in 1998, this part also became part of the Moeller Group.

Moeller building automation is pursuing an expansion strategy. From 1990 the company took advantage of the opening up of Eastern Europe, expanded and increased production by a factor of 15 until 2006. In this business area, the company is number two on the world market in the field of RCDs and number three in circuit breakers.

Product groups

The business area is divided into five building automation product groups:

  • Xstart : motor starters and contactors
  • Xpole : Circuit breakers such as residual current and line circuit breakers
  • Xpatch : Network technology, whereby all products are compatible with each other
  • Xenergy : Assortment for the high ampere range up to 5000 amps
  • Xboard : Range of power distributors in the field of housing technology
  • Xcomfort : Building automation products for wireless or wired communication, control and regulation of the building installation.
