Aaron MacKenzie (born March 7, 1981 in Terrace Bay , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . The defender made five appearances for the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League and spent most of his career in minor leagues .
Career
Aaron MacKenzie, who was never drafted , began his career as a hockey player with the Thunder Bay Flyers of the United States Hockey League , for which he played in the 1998/99 season. The following four years he was active for the ice hockey team of the University of Denver in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and was elected to the WCHA First All-Star Team in 2003 .
On October 6, 2003, the defender was committed by the Worcester IceCats from the American Hockey League , the farm team of the St. Louis Blues . After his first year in professional ice hockey, the Canadian also received a contract from the Blues, for which he never played in the NHL. From the 2005/06 season MacKenzie was in the squad of St. Louis new farm team, the Peoria Rivermen , who signed him on August 24, 2007 from the Blues.
On July 14, 2008, the Colorado Avalanche MacKenzie signed as a free agent and was used on their farm team, the Lake Erie Monsters . In the 2008/09 season, he completed five NHL games.
Since his contract with the Avalanche expired in the summer of 2009, he moved to the Idaho Steelheads in the ECHL . after three games for this he left the club again and was signed by HC Eaton Pardubice , with whom he was Czech champion of the 2009/10 season.
For the 2010/2011 season he was signed by the Austrian runner-up Black Wings Linz . After just one season MacKenzie moved to Japan in the Asia League Ice Hockey , where he was under contract with the Tohoku Free Blades . On June 12, 2012, he became the first player in the newly formed Denver Cutthroats franchise of the Central Hockey League . There he was active for two years before retiring from professional ice hockey.
