Duane Derksen (born July 7, 1968 in Saint-Boniface , Manitoba ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has spent eight seasons in North American minor leagues . In Germany he played one year each for the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League and the EC Bad Tölz in the 2nd Bundesliga .
Career
Derksen began his career in 1986 with the Winkler Flyers in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League . In the 1988 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Washington Capitals in the third round in 57th place. He then went to the University of Wisconsin – Madison and played there for the Wisconsin Badgers . There he was a substitute behind Curtis Joseph in his first season . A year later he became a regular goalkeeper and first won the championship of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , then the title of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .
In 1992 Derksen signed his first professional contract and played for five years in various minor leagues , including the American Hockey League , the International Hockey League and the ECHL . In total, he came to 220 games during this time. In 1997 the Canadian moved to Kärpät Oulu in what was then the second Finnish division for two years . In the 1998/99 season he also played five games for Tappara Tampere in the SM-liiga . 2000 Derksen won the Kelly Cup with the Peoria Rivermen from the East Coast Hockey League . In the 2000/01 season he was active for the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League . Derksen reached 15th place with the DEL climber. The next year he played for EC Bad Tölz in the 2nd Bundesliga . In 2002, the goalkeeper returned to North America and completed one season each for the Peoria Rivermen and the Missouri River Otters . He then ended his career in 2004.
