Nolan McDonald (born July 29, 1977 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Hannover Indians in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga since the 2009/10 season .
Career
McDonald spent his student days at the University of Vermont , for whose ice hockey team he participated in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . After engagements with the Olympiques de Hull and the Spokane Chiefs from the Canadian junior leagues Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Western Hockey League , the goalkeeper finally signed his first contract with a senior team in 1997 and played the season with the Raleigh IceCaps in East Coast Hockey League . The Canadian's first stop in Germany was the Grefrather EV in the 1998/99 season , for which he stood between the posts for two years.
After further years in North America and a brief stint with the Swedish second division club Växjö Lakers , the left catcher finally returned to Germany in 2002 , where he signed a contract with the Landshut Cannibals from the 2nd Bundesliga . There he was goalkeeper of the season and narrowly failed with the team in the play-off final.
During the 2004/05 season , the EV Landshut separated from Nolan McDonald, who switched to the Straubing Tigers as a stand-by goalie before the end of the transfer period , but was never used there. The Canadian made a fresh start with the Lausitzer Füchsen , where he became a guarantor of relegation in the 2006/07 play-downs when he held the team against the Dresdner Eislöwen in the 2nd Bundesliga. Also in the 2007/08 season Nolan McDonald was in the goal of the foxes. At that time he was elected to the team council along with the captains. During the 2008/09 season , the goalie moved to the Kassel Huskies in the German Ice Hockey League . Then he moved to the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga for the newly promoted EC Hannover Indians .
In his native Canada, Nolan McDonald now runs a successful ice hockey school.
