Andrew Cameron "Andy" Sutton (born March 10, 1975 in Kingston , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 687 games for the San Jose Sharks , Minnesota Wild , Atlanta Thrashers , New York Islanders , Ottawa Senators , Anaheim Ducks and Edmonton Oilers has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender .
Career
Sutton began his career in 1994 at Michigan Technological University with the university team he spent four years in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . After problems in the first three years of the game, mainly due to his height of 1.98 meters and a weight of 111 kilograms, the Canadian managed to develop into a mobile defender in his final year for his physical requirements. In his last year he achieved 40 points scorer after he had only managed 16 points in the three previous years. The achievement was rewarded with the appointment to the Second All-Star Team of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and his first professional contract with the San Jose Sharks , which signed the undrafted Sutton after the end of the college season and him with the Kentucky Thoroughblades , their farm team in the American Hockey League .

During the 1998/99 season , the defender was able to hold a third of the season in the NHL squad before he had to play again for the Thoroughblades. The season 1999/00 Sutton spent again between Kentucky and San Jose. In June 2000, the Sharks then transferred him to the Minnesota Wild , where the Canadian was able to work out a regular place in the 2000/01 season . After only a few games in the following season, the Wild gave him up for Hnat Domenichelli to the Atlanta Thrashers , in whose squad Sutton was able to develop into a permanent fixture by the end of the 2006/07 season , which has now also been able to set accents on the offensive . His five-year engagement with the Thrashers was only interrupted by a move to Switzerland during the 2004/05 season , as the NHL season had fallen victim to the lockout . In Switzerland, he first signed a contract with the GCK Lions from National League B , which loaned him to the ZSC Lions from National League A during the season .
In the summer of 2007, Sutton did not renew his expiring contract with the Atlanta Thrashers and tested the free agent market. Eventually he switched to the New York Islanders . Since his contract expired after two years at the end of the 2009/10 season, the Islanders transferred him for a right to vote in the second draft round in early March 2010 to the Ottawa Senators . In August 2010, he signed a two-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks .
On July 1, 2011, the Californians transferred him to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Kurtis Foster . After playing a few more games in the 2011/12 season, he had to sit out the entire 2012/13 season due to a knee injury. As a result, he officially announced the end of his career on May 22, 2013.
