In addition, he became German champion with the Adler Mannheim in 2015 . Since June 2016 he has been assistant coach for the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League .
Career
Kurtis Foster began his career as a hockey player with the Peterborough Petes , for which he was active from 1997 to 2001 in the Ontario Hockey League . During this time, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the second round as a total of 40th player by the Calgary Flames . The Flames gave him, before they signed him, in December 2001 from the Atlanta Thrashers , for whose farm team from the American Hockey League he mainly played in the following three years. Between 2002 and 2004 he played only five games for Atlanta in the National Hockey League . On June 26, 2004, the defender was given in exchange for Niclas Haevelid to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , but due to the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season, he was only used in their AHL farm team, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks .
On August 4, 2005, Foster received a free agent contract with the Minnesota Wild , for whom he has since played as well as for their AHL farm team, the Houston Eros . In the 2007/08 season , Foster caused a sensation in negative respects when he was promoted to the gang in March 2008 in an accidental collision with opponent Torrey Mitchell of the San Jose Sharks at high speed so badly that he broke his thighbone . The NHL therefore changed the rules during the summer break in order to avoid such situations - body contact in the area behind the goal with unauthorized long-range shots with touch icing - in the future. It took almost a year for the defender to celebrate his comeback on February 9, 2009 wearing the Houston Eros jersey. On July 1, 2010, he signed a two-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers .
On July 1, 2011, the Oilers transferred him to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Andy Sutton . In his first NHL appearance for the Californians on October 23, 2011, the defender scored an instant hit in the 4-5 defeat by the Phoenix Coyotes . On December 12, 2011 he was finally transferred to the New Jersey Devils together with the German goalkeeper Timo Pielmeier in exchange for Rod Pelley , Mark Fraser and a seven-round vote in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft .
Shortly before the trade deadline , on February 24, 2012, Foster returned to Minnesota because the New Jersey Devils, along with Nick Palmieri , Stéphane Veilleux , gave him a second-round suffrage in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and a performance-related third-round suffrage in the NHL Entry Draft in 2013 to the Minnesota Wild to sign Marek Židlický . After the NHL lockout ended in January 2013, the defender was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers .
In July 2013 Foster received a contract with the KHL Medveščak Zagreb from the Continental Hockey League . A year later he moved within the KHL to HC Slovan Bratislava and in winter 2014/15 to Adler Mannheim , with whom he was able to celebrate the German championship.
On April 24, 2015, the Nürnberg Ice Tigers announced that Foster had signed a contract there until 2017. In June 2016, Foster and the association agreed on an early termination of the employment relationship.
In July 2016, Foster took up his first coaching position and became assistant coach with the Peterborough Petes from the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
