Jean-Guy Trudel (born October 18, 1975 in Sudbury , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player , current - coach and - functionary , who during his active career among others for the Phoenix Coyotes and Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League as well as for the HC Ambri-Piotta and ZSC Lions in the National League A was active.
Career
Trudel began his career in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec with the Beauport Harfangs and later moved to the Verdun Collège Français for a year and to the Hull Olympiques for two seasons . After he had scored 50 goals and 71 assists in his last junior year, he made his professional debut with the Quad City Mallards from the then Colonial Hockey League in the 1996/97 season . However, he did not stay there long, but moved for a few games each to the Peoria Rivermen from the East Coast Hockey League , the San Antonio Dragons and the Chicago Wolves , each from the International Hockey League . The following season he played exclusively for Peoria in the ECHL, but moved a year later to the Kansas City Blades in the IHL.
In the summer of 1999 he signed a contract with the Phoenix Coyotes as a free agent and made his debut in the NHL during the season , but played almost exclusively for the Coyotes' farm team , the Springfield Falcons , in the American Hockey League . In the following three years he led the scorer list of the Falcons and was appointed twice to the AHL Second All-Star Team and once to the AHL First All-Star Team.
After three years in the Coyotes organization, Trudel signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Wild . Here, too, he only completed one NHL game and was instead used in the wild farm team, the Houston Eros , where he topped the list of points. The Houston Eros won the Calder Cup this season - the duo Hnat Domenichelli (63 points) and Trudel (85 points) played a major role in this . After winning the AHL trophy, he left together with Domenichelli the organization of the game and signed a contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta , with which he was under contract for the following four seasons.
Before the 2007/08 season he decided to try again in the NHL and signed a contract with the St. Louis Blues . However, he was only used in the farm team of the Blues in the AHL, the Peoria Rivermen , so that he returned to Switzerland in summer 2008 to the reigning Swiss champion ZSC Lions and signed a two-year contract here. With the Zurich team he won the Champions Hockey League in January 2009 , where he contributed one goal to the final victory.
During his engagement in Switzerland, Trudel had already started a career as an ice hockey coach in the United States and in the course of the 2008/09 season initially worked as an assistant coach for the Peoria Mustangs from a lower-class junior league. After Trudel had ended his engagement with the ZSC Lions, he took over the post of head coach of the Peoria Mustangs , which were now active in the North American 3 Hockey League , and one season later also the duties of general manager.
