The 1982/83 season was the 36th regular staging of the National League B , the second highest Swiss league in ice hockey . The four best-placed teams qualified for the NLA relegation , in which the Zürcher SC prevailed and achieved promotion. The EHC Grindelwald rose to the third highest division, the first division.
The 16 teams were divided into two groups in the main round. The first two in each group qualified for the NLA relegation. The remaining six teams in each group had to compete in a relegation round, whose last-placed teams were relegated directly to the third division. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.
