history

Artificial ice rink Küsnacht

The ice hockey section of the Küsnacht ice skating club was founded in September 1934. In 1947 (1948) the section was expanded to include a second team. The club initially played its games on the Schübelweiher , but over time an artificial ice rink was increasingly required. It took five years before the groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1961. The opening game of the artificial ice rink was played against the national league A club EHC Kloten . In 1963 the promotion to the National League B was realized. The club played in the second division for eleven years. Well-known players of that time were, for example, goalkeeper Werner Schaltegger and field players Peter Bantli and Arthur Jud . The SC Küsnacht also took part twice in the final round for promotion to National League A , but missed it each time.

In 1974, the club decided to voluntarily relegate to the first division regardless of the league received . In the following years, the desired promotion to the NLB did not succeed. From 1984 to 1989 Arno Del Curto , later multiple Swiss champion with HC Davos , was behind the gang at SC Küsnacht. The collaboration with the Grasshopper Club Zurich began in the late 1980s . In 1993 the KEK artificial ice rink was opened with a game between SC Küsnacht and the city of Zurich. In 2000 the ice hockey departments of the Grasshopper Club Zürich and SC Küsnacht merged. The second team, initially active in the 3rd division, became the first team as a result of this merger. In 2004 she rose to the 2nd division. After relegation in the meantime, they returned to the 2nd division in 2010.
