Tommi Leinonen (born May 14, 1987 in Kajaani ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Kiekko-Laser in Mestis since 2010 .

Career

Tommi Leinonen began his career as an ice hockey player in 2005 at Kärpät Oulu , for which he had already played in his youth. In the 2005 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the fourth round as a total of 125th player by the Pittsburgh Penguins , for which he never played. In his rookie year , Leinonen and his team finished third in the SM-liiga and reached the final of the IIHF European Champions Cup , in which he and Kärpät lost to the traditional Russian club HK Dynamo Moscow . In the following season the defender was Finnish champion for the first time in his career with Kärpät . Following this success, Leinonen moved to their league rivals HPK Hämeenlinna .

In the 2009/10 season Leinonen played for Hokki in the Mestis , the second Finnish division. The following season he moved within the league to Kiekko-Laser , for which he has played since then.

International

For Finland , Leinonen took part in the U18 Junior World Championships in 2005 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 2006 and 2007 . At the U20 World Cup in 2006 he won the bronze medal with Finland.
