Alexei Emelin ( Russian Алексей Вячеславович Емелин ; English transcription: Alexei Vyacheslavovich Emelin * 25. April 1986 in Tolyatti , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who since September 2018 when Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League is under contract. The defender previously served seven years in the National Hockey League for the Canadiens de Montréal and the Nashville Predators .
Career
Alexei Jemelin began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of the HK Lada Tolyatti , where he was active until 2003. After a season at ZSK WWS Samara in the second-class Wysschaja Liga , the defender returned to Tolyatti. In the 2004 NHL Entry Draft , the Russian was selected in the third round as the 84th player of the Montréal Canadiens .
In the 2004/05 season, the left shooter made his debut in the Russian Super League for Lada Tolyatti, with whom he was runner- up in his rookie year . After two more years in his hometown, Jelemin was committed in the summer of 2007 by Ak Bars Kazan , with whom he won the championship of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) for the first time in his career with the Gagarin Cup in the 2008/09 season . This success was repeated a season later. In May 2011, Jemelin signed a two-way contract for the 2011/12 season with the Montréal Canadiens.
In June 2017, Jemelin was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft , but was given to the Nashville Predators a good week later on July 1, 2017 in exchange for a third-round vote in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft . There he ended the 2017/18 season, but then did not receive a further contract in Nashville, so he had been looking for a new employer since July 2018.
As a result, Jemelin returned to his Russian homeland after seven NHL years and signed a three-year contract with HK Awangard Omsk from the KHL.
International
For Russia , Jemelin took part in the 2004 U18 World Junior Championships and the 2005 and 2006 U20 World Junior Championships . He was also in Russia's squad at the 2007 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 and 2016 World Championships and took part in the 2014 Winter Olympics. He also represented his home country at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey .
