Erika Burtscher (born December 9, 1956 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ; born Erika Spiegel ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and teacher. Burtscher was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 2004 to 2014 .

She lives in Feldkirch , is married to the former ORF regional director Wolfgang Burtscher and has three children.

Erika Burtscher was born on December 9, 1956 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil . She attended the first grade of elementary school in Dornbirn before the family moved to South America again. In Caracas , the capital of Venezuela , she then completed the remainder of school in elementary and secondary schools as well as at high school. At the beginning of the 7th grade, i.e. at the age of 17, Erika Burtscher moved back to Vorarlberg and attended the Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium Feldkirch , where she finally graduated in 1977 . Immediately afterwards, she began training as a secondary school teacher for mathematics and sport at the Pedagogical Academy in Feldkirch from 1978.

From 1981 Erika Burtscher taught at the secondary school and at the pedagogical center in Klaus . From 1985 to 1989 she was on leave and had three children during this time. Burtscher managed to return to work in 1989 as a technical employee in an architecture office. From the year 2000 she devoted herself full-time to her political activities as Feldkirch's deputy mayor.

Political career

Burtscher has been a member of the Feldkirch city council since 1995 and was elected city councilor in 1997. From the year 2000 she also held the office of Vice Mayor of Feldkirch, overseeing the departments of youth, music schools and sports and sports facilities. After Burtscher represented the ÖVP in the Vorarlberg state parliament from October 20, 2004 , she took over the function of area spokeswoman for childcare and kindergartens in the ÖVP state parliament club. In the state elections in 2009 , Burtscher ran for 14th place on the ÖVP state list.

During the sick leave of the mayor of Feldkirch, Wilfried Berchtold , she represented him from October 4, 2010 to December 7, 2010 as the incumbent mayor of Feldkirch. After the state elections in 2014 , Erika Burtscher left the state parliament. Erika Burtscher also said goodbye to local politics in the 2015 municipal council and mayoral elections that followed one year later .
