Career
Vyacheslav Koslow began his career in 1987 in his home country with Chimik Voskressensk . There he played a total of four years. In the 1990 NHL Entry Draft he was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round at position 45. After another year in Voskressensk, he played part of the 1991/92 season for HK CSKA Moscow before moving to the Detroit Red Wings.
In the 1992/93 season he played mainly in the American Hockey League with the Adirondack Red Wings , the Detroit farm team , to prove his skills, which he did with 59 points in 45 games. From the fall of 1993 he was a permanent member of the Detroit Red Wings and was immediately one of the best scorers on the team. Due to a lockout in the 1994/95 season , he returned to Russia for a short time to bridge the free time in the National Hockey League at CSKA.
In 1995 Igor Larionov joined the Red Wings squad and coach Scotty Bowman formed a Russian five-man formation, which included Koslow and Larionov, Vladimir Konstantinov , Vyacheslav Fetissov and Sergei Fyodorov . This formation was called the " Russian Five " and was an important part of the team on the way to winning the Stanley Cup in 1997. Shortly afterwards, the time of the "Russian Five" ended when Konstantinov had a serious car accident and his due to serious injuries Had to end his career. Winning the Stanley Cup was repeated in 1998.
In the summer of 2001 Koslow was transferred to the Buffalo Sabers along with a first-round draft pick for Dominik Hašek . After he couldn't play many games due to injuries in his first season in Buffalo, he was transferred to the Atlanta Thrashers in June 2002 . In the 2002/03 season he was able to build on his old form and brought it to 70 points in 79 games. The following season was less successful.
The 2004/05 NHL season fell due to a lockout and Koslow played at the time for Chimik Voskressensk and Ak Bars Kazan in Russia. After his return to the 2005/06 season he played better again and achieved a decent performance with 71 points.
In the 2006/07 season he played in an attack series with top scorer Marián Hossa , from which Koslow could benefit and with 80 points scored the best result of his career. In addition, his Atlanta Thrashers were able to qualify for the playoffs for the first time. Koslow was alternate captain for the Atlanta Thrashers. In the summer of 2007 they extended his contract for three years. In the summer of 2010, his expiring contract was not extended. After an engagement at HK CSKA Moscow, Koslow moved to Salawat Julajew Ufa in January 2011 in the Continental Hockey League (KHL). In May 2011 he signed a one-year contract with OHK Dynamo , for which he subsequently completed 23 scorer points in 50 KHL games and won the Gagarin Cup with the team . He was then initially without a club before he was signed by HK Spartak Moscow at the end of December 2012 and played there until 2014. The now 42-year-old was then signed by Atlant Moskovskaya Oblast in mid-2014 .
Due to financial problems, Atlanta withdrew from gaming operations after the 2014/15 season. Thereupon Koslow ended his career and became an assistant coach at HK Spartak Moscow , which took over Atlants KHL starting place. In October 2016 he was dismissed together with head coach German Titow after 10 defeats from 17 games . From December 2017 Koslow was the head coach of Spartak's farm team Chimik Voskressensk from the Vysschaya Hockey League .
In May 2019, Koslow was hired by HK Awangard Omsk as assistant coach for Bob Hartley , who already knew each other from their time together with the Florida Panthers.
