Felix Schütz (born November 3, 1987 in Erding ) is a German ice hockey player who is used in the position of the striker .
Career
Schütz went through the youth teams at TSV Erding and switched to the young eagles Mannheim in 2002 . There the attacker who fired from the left played in the German Junior League (DNL) in 2003/04 , where he won the title with the Mannheim team. In 2004/05 he played for EV Landshut in the 2nd Bundesliga , but was increasingly used in Bayern's DNL team. He was originally scheduled for the 2005/06 season at ERC Ingolstadt , where he also had a contract until 2008. However, Schütz decided to move to the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec to the Saint John Sea Dogs . There he had a good season and he developed into one of the top performers in the team. He was transferred to the Foreurs de Val-d'Or at the turn of the year 2006/07 . In the 2006 NHL Entry Draft , Schütz was selected by the Buffalo Sabers in 117th place in the fourth round.
For the 2007/08 season he returned to ERC Ingolstadt. In May 2008 he signed a three-year contract with the Buffalo Sabers and played the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons with their Portland Pirates farm team in the American Hockey League . After he couldn't fight for a place in the Sabers NHL squad again in the 2010 training camp, Schütz decided to return to Germany in October 2010 and was signed by the ERC Ingolstadt. On October 18, 2011, his contract with Bayern was dissolved. On the same day he was signed by the league rival Kölner Haie . The next two seasons Schütz was active for the club from the Rhineland , especially in the 2012/13 season with 41 points in the main round, behind Andreas Holmqvist, the second best scorer of his team and with 23 goals together with Chris Minard the most goals for his team scored. In the playoffs he was involved with ten points in the final of the Haie this season.
On July 2, 2013, the Cologne-based company announced that the contract was terminated by mutual agreement, so that Schütz moved to the Russian KHL for the newly founded team Admiral Vladivostok in the 2013/14 season. In his first season in the highest Russian ice hockey league, he was the best scorer of his team with 38 points, ending up among the top 20 scorers in the league and reaching the playoffs with Vladivostok, in which he lost to the later Gagarin Cup winner HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk .
However, there was no contract extension over the summer because Schütz apparently hoped for a better-paid offer. The 26-year-old national player already completed a few units with the Red Bull Munich team while preparing, but was unable to play a test match for Munich for insurance reasons. On September 18, 2014, he signed a two-year contract with EHC Red Bull Munich in the German Ice Hockey League . He returned to Admiral a month later, using an exit clause in his contract.
In December 2014, after 15 KHL games for Admiral, he was exchanged for Tom Wandell from HK Awangard Omsk . For Omsk Schütz completed 23 games in which he collected five scorer points. In July 2015, Schütz moved from Awangard Omsk to Dinamo Riga within the KHL , because Omsk wanted to sell him via an exchange deal and Schütz wanted to anticipate this matter. After only eleven games for Riga, he moved to league rivals Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in October 2015 . After his contract in Novgorod was terminated by mutual agreement in December 2015, Schütze hired a month later at Rögle BK from Svenska Hockeyligan . In the following season 2016/17 he also played for the Swedish first division and scored the decisive goal in relegation , which secured the team from the southernmost province of Sweden the class.
In July 2017, the Kölner Haie reported his return. In the main round of the 2017/18 season he was the most successful player of his team with 46 points and was thus among the top 10 scorers of the DEL. In the following season 2018/19 he was the third most successful scorer of his team with 34 points, but this did not lead to a continuation of his involvement with the Rhinelander .
International
Schütz's national team career began in 2005 when he played for the DEB team at the U-18 World Cup and the Junior World Cup . In 2006 there was another nomination for the junior selection at the World Cup. He was also appointed by Uwe Krupp for the Division I World Championship for the first time in the senior national team, where he achieved promotion with the team. At the 2010 World Cup he was the scorer of the 2-1 winning goal in the opening game against the USA.
As a result, the striker played the 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2016 and 2017 World Championships with the DEB selection, in which he reached the quarter-finals three times. He also completed the Olympic qualification tournaments in 2013 and 2016 , of which only the tournament in 2016 was crowned with success. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , Schütz was also part of the German squad, won the silver medal and was awarded the silver laurel leaf by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on June 7, 2018 . .
