Per Robert Andreas Holmqvist Pedersen (born July 23, 1981 in Stockholm ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current trainer who, among other things, worked for the Kölner Haien in the German ice hockey league and for Linköpings HC , Frölunda HC and Djurgårdens IF in Svenska Hockey Gigan was active. In 2006 he became world champion with Sweden. Since 2015 he has been working as an assistant coach for the women's team at Djurgårdens IF .
Player career
Andreas Holmqvist began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth of Hammarby IF , for whose professional team he was active from 2000 to 2002 in the HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division. During this period he was selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as a total of 61st player from the Tampa Bay Lightning , for which he however never played. Instead, the defender switched to Linköpings HC for the 2002/03 season , for which he scored 13 points in a total of 53 games in his rookie year in the Elitserien . He then played for two years in North America for the Hamilton Bulldogs and Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League and the Pensacola Ice Pilots in the ECHL .
In the summer of 2005, Holmqvist returned to Linköpings HC in the Elitserien, with whom he lost to MODO Hockey Örnsköldsvik in the finals in the best-of-seven series with 2-4 wins in the 2006/07 season . He then signed with their league rivals Frölunda HC , where he also began the 2008/09 season before he was committed to Djurgårdens IF after only seven games . After relegation with the club in the 2011/2012 season , the Swede signed a one-year contract with the Kölner Haien , which was extended for two more seasons in December 2012. 2013 was the player of the year in the German Ice Hockey League . In February 2015, Holmqvist announced the end of his career following the 2014/15 season .
International
For Sweden , Holmqvist took part in the 2001 U20 World Junior Championship and the 2006 Men's World Championship . In the latter tournament he won the title with Sweden. He also played for Sweden's national team during the Euro Hockey Tour 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08.
Coaching career
Since September 2015 Holmqvist has been the assistant coach of the Djurgårdens IF women's team in the Swedish first division.
