Justin Matthew Krueger (born October 6, 1986 in Düsseldorf ) is a German - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Lausanne HC in the Swiss National League (NL) since June 2020 and plays there in the position of defender . Krueger spent most of his career at SC Bern , with whom he was three times Swiss champion . The son of the former German national player and former Swiss national coach Ralph Krueger played 99 international matches for the German national ice hockey team .
Career
Justin Krueger learned to play ice hockey in Duisburg and moved to Feldkirch in the early 1990s due to his father's commitment to VEU Feldkirch . In 2003 he moved to the junior division of the Swiss professional club HC Davos , where he was active until 2005. He then moved to the Canadian Junior League , British Columbia Hockey League , in which he played for the Penticton Vees in the 2005/06 season. Between 2006 and 2010 he played for the team from Cornell University in the university and college sports league ECAC Hockey , whose championship he won with his team in 2010. Krueger himself was elected to the ECAC All-Academic Team in 2008 and 2009 and was named the league's best defensive defender in 2010. Krueger studied hotel management at Cornell University.
In the 2010/11 season , Justin Krueger played for SC Bern in the National League A , with which he failed in the playoff semi-finals in seven matches against the Kloten Flyers . In April 2011, Krueger accepted a one-year contract offer from the Carolina Hurricanes for the 2011/12 season , but was sent to the franchise's farm team, the Charlotte Checkers , in the American Hockey League in late September . In May 2013, Krueger signed a two-year contract with SC Bern, and in November 2014 his contract was extended early until the end of the 2017/18 season. In the 2015/16 season, Krueger became Swiss champion with the SCB and successfully defended the title in 2017.
In 2019 Krueger won another Swiss championship with SC Bern before he did not get a new contract with the "Mutzen" after the 2019/20 season . He played a total of 440 games for the SCB in the highest Swiss league and scored 80 points scorer (16 goals, 64 assists). In June 2020 he received a contract with Lausanne HC .
International
For Germany Krueger took at junior level at the Under-18 World Youth Championship 2004, the Division I and the U-20 World Youth Championship 2006, the Division I in part. In both tournaments he rose with his team in the top division.
In April 2010 he made his debut for the German men's national team and took part in seven world championships, but not in any Olympic Games. In October 2018 he announced his resignation from the national team, he played a total of 99 international matches (four goals, ten assists) for Germany.
