Joël Genazzi (born February 10, 1988 in Ticino ) is a Swiss ice hockey player on the position of defender. He is under contract with Lausanne HC from the National League A (NLA).
Player career
Genazzi was born in Ticino and grew up in Greifensee near Zurich , where he attended the sports trade school. He played in his youth in Dübendorf and until 2005 in the youth movement of the EHC Kloten and then moved to Friborg-Gottéron . In the jersey of the Üechtländer he made his debut in the National League A (NLA) during the 2006/07 season .
In 2009 Genazzi moved to EHC Visp in the National League B (NLB) and stayed in Valais for a season before returning to the NLA and joining the SCL Tigers . There he was retrained from a striker to a defender by coach John Fust .
After three years in Langnau , he moved on to Lausanne HC in 2014 within the NLA . In the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons, Genazzi, who signed a five-year contract with the Vaudois in October 2016, was the NLA's most dangerous defender with 11 and 16 goals respectively.
International
In 2017 Genazzi was appointed to the men's national team for the first time .
He also represented the junior team at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2005 .
