Cory Conacher (born December 14, 1989 in Burlington , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Lausanne HC from the Swiss National League since July 2020 and plays there in the position of left winger . Conacher is a distant relative of Lionel Conacher , Charlie Conacher, and Roy Conacher .
Career
Conacher first played until 2007 for the Burlington Cougars from his hometown in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League . There he reached 62 scorer points in 48 games in the 2006/07 season . In the summer of 2007 he finally went to the American Canisius College in Buffalo , where he ran parallel for the hockey team of the college in the Atlantic Hockey , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During his four-year tenure, the striker completed 129 games for college, scoring 147 points. In the 2010/11 season he was named Division Player of the Year after 53 points in 33 games . Overall, Conacher set twelve college records, but was not drafted by any franchise from the National Hockey League during this time , although the Anaheim Ducks regularly scouted him .
After finishing his college career, Conacher was signed by the Rochester Americans from the American Hockey League on a trial contract at the end of March 2011. After only two missions in which he scored a goal, the two parties parted ways. Conacher then immediately hired the Cincinnati Cyclones from the ECHL , which awarded him after seven points from three games - including a four-point game in the first and a hat trick in the second game - to the Milwaukee Admirals from the American Hockey League. In Milwaukee, the winger ended the season; He achieved six points in twelve matches. In July 2011, the Norfolk Admirals Conacher signed. His contract rights with the Cincinnati Cyclones in the ECHL were secured a month later by the Florida Everblades , which were in cooperation with the Norfolk Admirals. In September, the Tampa Bay Lightning from the NHL finally tested their acquisition in the pre-season, where Conacher, however, failed to recommend. He then spent the 2011/12 season in Norfolk. During the season he took part in the AHL All-Star Classic after he had led all rookies in the league on points at this point . In addition, after an excellent season with the Admirals, he secured the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as the best point team in the league in the regular season . Conacher himself ended the season as the second-best scorer of all players behind Chris Bourque , top scorer of all games and best scorer among all rookies. In addition to nominations for the Second All-Star Team and All-Rookie Team , he received the Les Cunningham Award for Most Valuable Player , Willie Marshall Award for Best Scorer and Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award for Best League Newcomer. In the play-offs in June 2012, the striker reached the final series of the Calder Cup with the Admirals , which the team won against the Toronto Marlies . On March 1, 2012, the Tampa Bay Lightning provided him with a contract for the NHL and AHL for the following two years until summer 2014.
Conacher was transferred to the Ottawa Senators an hour before the trade deadline on April 3, 2013 . There he played until March 2014, before he was signed by the Buffalo Sabers on the waiver list . This did not extend his contract after the 2013/14 season, so he joined the New York Islanders in July 2014 .
The Islanders swapped him for Dustin Jeffrey from the Vancouver Canucks in March , with Conacher serving for their farm team, the Utica Comets . At the Comets he reached the final of the Calder Cup , but lost to the Manchester Monarchs . His expiring contract was not extended afterwards, so that Conacher moved to Europe for the first time to SC Bern in the Swiss National League A in the 2015/16 season. With the SCB he became Swiss champion in 2016.
In July 2016, he returned to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL and signed a one-year contract. However, these mainly used the attacker in the AHL at the Syracuse Crunch , where Conacher was again elected to the AHL Second All-Star Team at the end of the 2016/17 season. Ultimately, the Canadian spent in the organization until summer 2020 and mainly played for Syracuse in the AHL. In July 2020, he signed a three-year contract with Lausanne HC , which brought him back to Switzerland.
