Ryan O'Marra (born June 9, 1987 in Tokyo , Japan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Vålerenga Ishockey in the GET-ligaen since January 2013 .

Career

O'Marra first played in the 2002/03 season for the Mississauga Senators in the Greater Toronto Hockey League . In the same season, the center also went on the ice for the Georgetown Raiders and Streetsville Derbys in the Ontario Junior Hockey League . For the 2003/04 season , the Canadian made his debut for the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League , which had previously selected him at the OHL Priority Selection . After a solid debut season with 32 scorer points in 63 games of the regular season, the player, who can also be used in the position of the right winger, was appointed assistant captain of the Erie Otters. He managed to more than double his points yield in the two following years, so that O'Marra was the second best team-internal scorer of the Erie Otters. During this time he was selected in the first round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in a total of 15th position by the New York Islanders . In the following 2005/06 season he led the Erie Otters as team captain on the ice.

After signing a three-year entry - level contract with the New York Islanders in late March 2006 , the striker made his debut for their farm team , the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the American Hockey League . For the following season, the attacker returned to the Ontario Hockey League, but was transferred to the Saginaw Spirit in a barter before the end of 2006 . On February 27, 2007 he was transferred to the Edmonton Oilers together with Robert Nilsson and a first round suffrage in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 , which Ryan Smyth gave to the New York Islanders. The Canadian spent the following three years mainly in the AHL farm team of the Edmonton Oilers, the Springfield Falcons . During the 2009/10 season he made his debut in the National Hockey League and stood in three games for the Oilers on the ice, in which the right- shooter booked an assist . In the following game year he succeeded his first NHL hit, but O'Marra was denied the breakthrough in the National Hockey League, so he was mainly active with the new cooperation partner of the Edmonton Oilers, the Oklahoma City Barons .

On February 16, 2012, he was traded again, this time for defenseman Bryan Rodney of the Anaheim Ducks . For the Californians, the offensive player played two NHL games and was, as before in Edmonton, mainly used in the AHL farm team. He started the 2012/13 season in Europe with the Finnish first division club Pelicans with play in the SM-liiga and was on the ice in eight games for this. His engagement with the Italian club SHC Fassa was more successful , where the Canadian center then signed and scored a total of 13 points in nine games in the A1 series . In January 2013, O'Marra was signed by Vålerenga Ishockey from the GET-ligaen .

International

For Canada , O'Marra took part at the junior level in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2005 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2006 and 2007 . The striker won a medal in all three tournaments. After he had contributed to winning the silver medal with five goals in six matches at the U18 Junior World Championship in 2005, he triumphed in the world title fights at the U20 Junior World Championship a year later. The title was defended in 2007 with a final victory against Russia. In both U20 World Cup tournaments, the right-handed shooter was on the ice in six games each and posted two assists. He had previously represented Team Canada Ontario at the 2004 World U-17 Hockey Challenge and also won the gold medal. To this success, O'Marra had contributed three goals and four assists in six games.
