Career
Martens began his career in 2001 in the Eisbären Berlin junior team, for which he played in the German Junior League. Two seasons later, the attacker was one of the strikers with the highest points on the team, scoring 39 points in 38 games. In the 2004/05 season, the left-shot was called up by the then coach of the polar bears, Pierre Pagé , in the Berlin professional team, where he played a total of 26 games and scored two goals. Furthermore, Martens was in the squad of the Eisbären Juniors Berlin , who played in the top division at the time.
In the following years, the striker was mostly active for the Eisbären Juniors, but still played another 60 DEL games. The 2007/08 season spent Martens almost exclusively in the 2. Bundesliga at the traditional club ETC Crimmitschau . There the all-rounder was able to reach the play-off quarter-finals with the Eispiraten, which the team lost in a best-of-seven series 2: 4 against later promoters, the Kassel Huskies . Martens came on 51 second division appearances, in which he scored four points. In the four years that he was under contract with Eisbären Berlin, the striker won the German championship twice, in 2005 and 2006 . In the championship season 2007/08 Martens was not in the squad of the capital city.
After the 2008/09 season , the striker moved from the Spree to ERC Ingolstadt , for whom he completed 41 appearances in the DEL in his first year there. At the same time, he ran in some games with a sponsorship license for the Heilbronner Falken in the 2nd Bundesliga. Before the 2010/11 season, Martens received a production license for the Landshut Cannibals , but was not regularly used there or at the ERC. Therefore, in November 2010 he received a license to support the Dresdner Eislöwen . In July 2011 he was awarded a contract for the 2011/12 season by the Dresden Ice Lions. In the 2012/13 season Martens played for the Löwen Frankfurt in the Oberliga West. The team rose to the DEL2 in the 2013/14 season .
In 2016 he switched to Füchsen Duisburg . After one season, however, he joined the Crocodiles Hamburg in 2017 and signed a three-year contract there.
