Andrew Cogliano (born June 14, 1987 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player of Italian descent who has been under contract with the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League since January 2019 . From October 2007 to January 2018, wearing the Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks jersey, he did not miss any of 830 NHL games, making it the fourth-longest series of its kind in league history.
Career
Andrew Cogliano first played for the Vaughan Kings AAA in the lower class Canadian junior league Greater Toronto Hockey League . Subsequently, the striker went from 2003 to 2005 for the St. Michael's Buzzers in the Ontario Junior Hockey League on the ice. In the 2005 NHL Entry Draft , Cogliano was selected in the first round as the 25th player by the Edmonton Oilers . Initially, the attacker played for the University of Michigan ice hockey team for two years . After a solid rookie season , the Canadian was elected to the All-Rookie Team of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . In his second season on the University of Michigan ice hockey team, he managed to increase his points yield significantly, so that the left-handed shooter succeeded in making the immediate jump to the Edmonton Oilers' NHL squad for the 2007/08 season . In his debut season, the nimble striker completed all 82 regular-time matches and scored 45 points.
On March 11, 2008, he scored the winning goal in overtime for the third game in a row , thereby setting a new NHL record. After the game, the attacker used his donated hockey stick and gloves of the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto . Previously, after winning the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2004 , Cogliano donated his ice hockey stick to the Hall of Fame.
On July 12, 2011, the Oilers transferred the rights of the Restricted Free Agent in exchange for a second-round vote in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft to the Anaheim Ducks . Seven days later, he signed a three-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks. During the NHL lockout in the 2012/13 season, the Canadian played for the EC KAC in the Austrian ice hockey league .
In the dress of the Anaheim Ducks, Cogliano quickly became a top performer and began an outstanding series of consecutive NHL games. On December 31, 2013, he became the fifth player in NHL history with a use against the San Jose Sharks and the first since Doug Jarvis (1975-1988), who has completed at least 500 games in a row since the start of his career. In January 2014, Cogliano extended his contract with the Anaheim Ducks for four more years until the end of the 2017/18 season. In the meantime, he continued his series and signed a new three-year contract in Anaheim in January 2018. A few days later, however, the attacker was suspended for two games due to an illegal check , so that his series came to an end. In total, from October 2007 to January 2018, Cogliano played 830 games in a row in eleven seasons, which was by far the longest series of all active players. In NHL history, only Doug Jarvis (964), Garry Unger (914) and Steve Larmer (884) have been on the ice for longer.
After more than seven years in Anaheim, Cogliano was transferred to the Dallas Stars in January 2019 , while Devin Shore moved to the Ducks in return . In their jersey, the attacker played his 1,000th regular season game in the NHL in February 2020.
