In preparation for the season he was also on the ice for Frölunda in five European Trophy games , preparing two goals.
In April 2011 Klingberg signed a one-year contract with Jokerit Helsinki from the Finnish SM-liiga . This loan ended in January 2012 and Klingberg was instead sent to Skellefteå AIK , with which he won the Swedish Championship in 2013. After this success he was loaned to his home club, Frölunda HC, for the 2013/14 season.
At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, Klingberg was in the NHL lineup of the Dallas Stars for the first time and made his debut in the National Hockey League. Over the course of the season, the Swede established himself in the team of stars and scored a total of 40 points scorer in 65 games, leading the league's top scorer of rookie defenders. He was also voted NHL Rookie of the Month for January. After the season, Klingberg signed a seven-year contract in Dallas with an estimated salary of approximately $ 30 million.
