Boris Valábik (born February 14, 1986 in Nitra , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League since January 2013 .
Career
Boris Valábik comes from the offspring HK Nitra . For a total of three years from 2003 to 2006 Valábik played for the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League . During this time he was appointed to both the First All-Rookie Team of the OHL and the All-Rookie Team of the Canadian Hockey League . During the 2004 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected as the tenth overall player by the Atlanta Thrashers .
In the summer of 2006, Valábik played for the first time in professional ice hockey after he was included in the roster of Atlanta's farm team from the American Hockey League , the Chicago Wolves . In the 2007-08 season he made his debut in the National Hockey League for Atlanta. In total, he came to seven appearances for the Thrashers in his first season and won the Calder Cup with the Wolves . In February 2011, the Thrashers gave him in a transfer business to the Boston Bruins , who used him in the farm team at the Providence Bruins until the end of the season .
On July 3, 2011, Valábik signed a two-way contract for one year with the Pittsburgh Penguins . There he played after a knee injury first for their farm team, the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , in the AHL. There he suffered a hand injury after just three missions, which ended his season. In the following season, the Slovak first signed a contract with HC Kometa Brno from the Czech Extra League during the NHL lockouts , before returning to North America in January 2013 and signed with the Portland Pirates from the AHL.
International
For Slovakia, Valábik took part in the U18 World Championships in 2003 and 2004 . He was also part of the Slovak squad during the U20 World Junior Championships in 2005 and 2006 .
