Career
Nikita Nikitin began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth of HK Awangard Omsk , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Russian Super League in the 2003/04 season , where he was only used in one game this season. In addition, the Russian was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 in the fifth round as a total of 136th player by the St. Louis Blues . At European level, the defender won the IIHF European Champions Cup with Awangard in 2005 . In the final, the left shooter and his team prevailed against Kärpät Oulu from the Finnish SM-liiga .
In the 2005/06 season Nikitin was runner-up with Omsk after losing to Ak Bars Kazan in the finals . From the 2008/09 season Nikitin stood for Awangard in the newly formed Continental Hockey League on the ice. In June 2010 he signed a contract with the St. Louis Blues. After Nikitin had started the 2010/11 season in the NHL squad of the Blues and was used in 13 NHL games, he was then sent to the farm team to the Peoria Rivermen .
In November 2011 Nikitin was swapped for Kris Russell from the Columbus Blue Jackets . Due to the NHL lockout, he played from 2012 to 2013 for HK Awangard Omsk in the Continental Hockey League . After three years in Columbus, Nikitin joined the Edmonton Oilers in June 2014 . In Edmonton, the Russian played 42 games in the 2014/15 season, but did not make it into the NHL squad in preparation for the 2015/16 season and was therefore initially given to the Bakersfield Condors . After playing for both the Condors and Oilers games over the course of the season, he returned to his hometown of Omsk in September 2016. There he rejoined the HK Awangard Omsk.
