Lauri Korpikoski (born July 28, 1986 in Turku ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been playing for TPS Turku in the Finnish Liiga since May 2018 in the position of the left winger .

Career

Korpikoski played as a youth in the junior team of TPS Turku . At the age of 18 he made his debut with the professional team in the Finnish SM-liiga .

After Korpikoski had already been selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2004 by the New York Rangers in the first round in 19th place, they brought him for the first time in their farm team in the American Hockey League at the end of the 2005/06 season . At the Hartford Wolf Pack , the center did well with three points in five games and also spent the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons there. After Korpikoski could improve from season to season, he was appointed to the NHL roster of the New York Rangers for the first time in the course of the playoffs in 2008. Overall, he came to a mission in which he scored a goal. In the summer of 2008, the striker won a regular place in the squad in the Rangers training camp and then played 68 main round games and the subsequent playoffs.

On July 13, 2009, the Rangers exchanged him for Enwer Lissin from the Phoenix Coyotes.

At the 2014 Olympic Games, he won the bronze medal with the Finnish national team.

In June 2015, the Coyotes gave it to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Boyd Gordon . Korpikoski completed the 2015/16 season in Edmonton before the Oilers bought him out of his remaining contract year in June 2016 (buy-out) , so that from then on he was looking for a new employer, which he joined the Dallas Stars in October 2016 found. The stars, however, gave the Finns to the Columbus Blue Jackets in March 2017 and received the young defender Dillon Heatherington in return . In Columbus, the attacker ended the season, but did not receive a further contract, so he was then looking for a new employer. In October 2017 he received a contract with the ZSC Lions from the Swiss National League and won the Swiss championship with the Lions at the end of the season . He then returned to his hometown club, where he received a six-year contract. Due to illness, he missed most of the 2018/19 season and did not return to the ice until March 2019.
