Teemu Laakso (born August 27, 1987 in Tuusula ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who was last under contract with the HIFK Helsinki in the Liiga .

Career

Teemu Laakso began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of Ahmat Hyvinkää , for which he was active until 2002. After another junior station at Haukat Järvenpää , the defender made his debut in the SM-liiga for HIFK Helsinki in the 2004/05 season . For the capital club he was on the ice for a total of five years until 2008. At the same time, he was used from 2005 to 2007 for the Finnish U20 national team in the second-rate Mestis .

In the summer of 2008 he finally moved to North America. The defender, who was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2005 in the third round as a total of 78th player by the Nashville Predators , ran throughout the 2008/09 season for their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Milwaukee Admirals . For the 2009/10 season , the Finn was appointed for the first time in the NHL squad of the Predators, for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the game against the Dallas Stars on October 3, 2009 .

After Laakso could not prevail in four seasons in the NHL, he left the Predators franchise and signed a two-year contract on June 3, 2012 with Severstal Tscherepowez .

Between 2014 and 2017 he was under contract with the Växjö Lakers before signing a trial contract with HIFK Helsinki in June 2017.

International

For Finland , Laakso took part in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2004 and 2005 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2005 , 2006 and 2007 .
