history
In the Middle Ages, the Huckelheim Forest was owned by the Ulner and Groschlag von Dieburg families . In 1666 the forest was sold to the Counts of Schönborn . Since then, the entry "Schönbornsche Waldung" has been found on older maps for the area. The Counts of Schönborn operated several ore mines in and around the Huckelheim forest and the first mine wash house in the Spessart at Wesemichshof . After a legal dispute with Kurmainz these had to be given up. The Huckelheim Forest was sold several times in the 19th century. In the 1930s, the owner had large areas of the forest felled for pit wood . The reforestation that became necessary was carried out so poorly that the Huckelheim forest was sold at the urging of the State Forestry Office .
The community-free area of Huckelheimer Wald was dissolved on January 1, 2019 and divided between the communities Westerngrund (west) and Kleinkahl (south).
