Michal Řepík (born December 31, 1988 in Vlašim , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Sparta Prague from the Extraliga since 2019 .

Career

Michal Řepík in the jersey of the Vancouver Giants

Michal Řepík began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth teams of HC Sparta Prague , for which he played in the U18 and U20 extra leagues until 2005. In the summer of 2005 he decided to move to North America and was signed by the Vancouver Giants . For the Giants he went on the ice in the Western Hockey League between 2005 and 2008 and won the President's Cup with his team in 2006 and the Memorial Cup the following year . During this time, he was also selected during the NHL Entry Draft 2007 in the second round as a total of 40th player by the Florida Panthers .

The Rochester Americans , the Florida Panthers farm team from the American Hockey League , took Řepík into their squad prior to the 2008-09 season . The Czech made his debut in the National Hockey League for Florida on December 8, 2008 against the Ottawa Senators . However, he spent most of the season in Rochester. In addition, he was selected in the first Junior Draft of the Continental Hockey League in the second round in 27th place by HK Sibir Novosibirsk , which thus secured his transfer rights when moving to the KHL.

In May 2012 he was signed by the new KHL participant HC Lev Prague and reached the KHL play-off final with HC Lev in 2014. He then played for the Pelicans Lahti in the Finnish Liiga before it in February 2015 just before the play-offs of the National League A by EV train was committed.

In the 2015/16 season, Řepík was under contract with the Bílí Tygři Liberec in his Czech homeland and won the Czech championship with the White Tigers in 2016 , with ten goals himself being the top scorer in the Extraliga playoffs. The performances shown brought him on the one hand an appointment to the national team squad for the 2016 World Cup, and on the other hand a contract in the KHL when he was signed by HK Traktor Chelyabinsk at the end of May 2016 . There, however, Řepík could not prevail, only played two games for the club and was dismissed in October 2016. A month later he was signed by HC Sparta Prague , where he got back to his old form.

Between summer 2017 and December 2018, Řepík was under contract with Řepík HC Slovan Bratislava , but ended the 2017/18 season again with Sparta Prague, as Slovan had missed the KHL playoffs. In December 2018 he moved within the KHL to HK Witjas , for which he played 23 games by the end of the season. Then he returned to his home in Sparta Prague.

International

For the Czech Republic , Řepík took part in the 2007 U20 World Junior Championship . It wasn't until almost ten years later that he made his debut for the men's national team during the Euro Hockey Tour 2014/15 . He completed his first men's world championship in 2016, where he scored four points in eight games. A year later, at the 2017 world championships, he scored three goals and two assists for the Czech selection.
