Career
Tuomas Grönman began his career as a hockey player in the youth of the Finnish first division club Lukko Rauma , in which he was active until 1991. He then played for a year for the Tacoma Rockets in the Western Hockey League before he was selected in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as the 29th player of the Québec Nordiques , for which he never played. Instead, the defender returned to his Finnish homeland, where he made his SM-liiga debut for Lukko Rauma in the 1992/93 season . In his rookie year he scored a total of three goals and 14 scorer points in a total of 48 games, after which he was elected to the all-rookie team of the SM-liiga. In the following season, Grönman and his team reached third place in the national championship and moved to their league rivals TPS Turku , with whom the right-handed shooter was Finnish champion for the first and only time in his career in the 1994/95 season . He was also runner-up in 1996 with Turku.
In the summer of 1996 Grönman was committed by the Chicago Blackhawks , for which he was in the following season in 16 games in the National Hockey League a template. However, the Finn spent most of the season with Chicago's Indianapolis Ice farm team in the International Hockey League . After he had started the 1997/98 season again at Indianapolis, Grönman was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 27, 1997 in exchange for Greg Johnson , where he was also unable to prevail. In his first year with the Penguins he completed 23 games in the NHL for this and 34 games in the American Hockey League for their farm team Syracuse Crunch , so he was only in four games for Pittsburgh's IHL in the 1998/99 season due to a knee injury - Kansas City Blades farm team on the ice.
In the summer of 1999, Grönman returned to Finland after three years in North America, where he was then runner- up with Jokerit Helsinki . The defender ended his career with his two ex-clubs Lukko Rauma and TPS Turku, for which he was active in the SM-liiga until 2003.
