Tyler Wotherspoon (born March 12, 1993 in Surrey , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League since July 2019 and for their farm team , the Lehigh Valley Phantoms , in American Hockey League plays in the position of defender .

Career

Wotherspoon spent his junior years with the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League from 2009 to 2013 . During this time he was selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft 2011 in 57th place by the Calgary Flames from the National Hockey League . In his final junior year, the defender won the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the Winterhawks.

After completing his junior career, the Canadian signed a contract with the Calgary Flames in March 2013. In the following four years he commuted again and again between the NHL squad in Calgary and the farm team of the Flames in the American Hockey League . These included the Abbotsford Heat , Adirondack Flames and Stockton Heat . His contract was extended by one year in the meantime in the summer of 2016 and 2017. This did not happen after the 2017/18 season, so that after five years in Calgary he joined the St. Louis Blues as a free agent in July 2018 . In the same way, after a season without an NHL appearance, he moved to the Philadelphia Flyers in July 2019 .

International

For his home country, Wotherspoon played at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2010 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2013 . He could not win a medal in either tournament.
