Tristan Jarry (born April 29, 1995 in Surrey , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League since September 2013 and also for their farm team, the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , in the American Hockey League is used.
Career
youth
Tristan Jarry played in his youth in the North Delta Minor Hockey Association before he was selected in the Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 46th position by the Edmonton Oil Kings . He then ran for a year for the Greater Vancouver Canadians , before moving permanently to the Oil Kings in the region's highest junior league. Already in his first season in Edmonton, the Canadian won the WHL playoffs for the Ed Chynoweth Cup as the second goalkeeper behind Laurent Brossoit and as a result took part in the Memorial Cup for the first time , in which he remained without action and the team was eliminated in the group stage. At the same time, he took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2012 with Team Canada Pacific at the turn of the year , where he achieved fifth place.
In the following season 2012/13 Jarry led the WHL after 27 appearances with goals against goals (1.61) and catch rate (93.6%) and was considered in the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2013 in 44th place by the Pittsburgh Penguins , the goalkeeper equipped with an entry-level contract in September . However, he initially returned to Edmonton as expected and led the Oil Kings in the 2013/14 season as a goalkeeper to another Ed Chynoweth Cup, before the team also won the subsequent Memorial Cup. Jarry again had the best goalscoring average in the league (2.24) and was therefore elected to the First All-Star Team of the Eastern Conference. He received the same honor again the following year before retiring from the WHL after four years due to age.
NHL
At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, Jarry switched to the organization of the penguins and spent the year with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , the Pittsburgh farm team , in the American Hockey League (AHL). There he shared the working time in roughly equal parts with Matt Murray , before he formed the duo with the best conceded goal with Casey DeSmith the following season and the two were therefore awarded the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award . In addition, Jarry made his debut for Pittsburgh in the NHL in April 2017, although it remained with this one mission for the time being. However, in the 2017 playoffs, as in the previous year, he was a backup in the squad at several Penguins games and therefore received a Stanley Cup ring each time, but without being immortalized on the trophy.
During the 2017/18 season, after the transfer of Antti Niemi and in competition with Casey DeSmith, Jarry earned a regular place in the Penguins' NHL squad, as a backup behind Matt Murray. In the following year, however, the Penguins relied mainly on DeSmith, so Jarry only got two NHL games.
