Bryan Peter Rust (born May 11, 1992 in Pontiac , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League since 2014 . With the team, the right winger won the Stanley Cup in the 2016 and 2017 playoffs .

Career

Bryan Rust played in the Detroit Honeybaked youth program in Michigan from 2004 to 2008 . He then moved to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program for two years . There he played in the North American Hockey League and the United States Hockey League and scored 40 scorer points in 78 games. In other games outside of the league, Rust was able to score 59 points in 91 games. In the 2010 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the third round in 80th place by the Pittsburgh Penguins . From 2010 to 2014 he played for the University of Notre Dame in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and won the championship there in 2013.

On April 1, 2014, Rust signed an entry level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins and made his professional debut with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in the American Hockey League at the end of the 2013/14 season . He spent the next season mainly in the AHL, but made his debut in the National Hockey League for Pittsburgh on December 13, 2014 and played 14 games in the NHL. Rust started the 2015/16 season again in the AHL, but later managed to earn a regular place in the NHL. In March 2016, the Penguins extended his contract by two years. In the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs , he played in a row with Yevgeny Malkin and Chris Kunitz . In the Eastern Conference final, he scored two goals in a seventh game as only the eighth rookie in NHL history. He then scored the first goal in the final series of the Stanley Cup , which he eventually won with Pittsburgh. The attacker was able to repeat the title win the following year with the Penguins.

Rust then signed a new four-year contract in Pittsburgh in June 2018 that should earn him an average annual salary of $ 3.5 million.

International

Rust played for the US national team at the 2010 U18 World Junior Championship and won the gold medal.
