Career
Zach Aston-Reese played in his youth for the New Jersey Rockets , among others , before moving to the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest junior league in the United States, for the 2010/11 season . There he was briefly active for the Des Moines Buccaneers before he played for the Lincoln Stars from January 2011 after a brief return to New Jersey . The attacker was active in Lincoln for almost two and a half years before retiring from the USHL for reasons of age and then enrolling at Northeastern University in Boston . For their ice hockey team, the Huskies , he took part in the game operation of Hockey East , a league of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
After two years at Northeastern University, Aston-Reese significantly increased his personal statistics for the 2015/16 season, he scored 43 points in 41 games and was therefore appointed to the Hockey East Second All-Star Team , while he won the championship with the Huskies Hockey East won. In the following year, the American scored 63 points in 38 games, so that he was honored as Player of the Year and voted into the Hockey East First All-Star Team . In addition, he was nominated with Will Butcher and Mike Vecchione as one of three finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award , which recognizes the best college player in the USA. However, Will Butcher subsequently won it.
Nevertheless, Aston-Reese recommended himself with these achievements for the professional sector, so that he signed an entry contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins in March 2017 without having previously been considered in an NHL Entry Draft . The Penguins initially used him with their farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , in the American Hockey League (AHL) before making his debut for Pittsburgh in the National Hockey League (NHL) in February 2018 .
